Do We Need This Many New Houses in Sefton?
Of all the options proposed we believe that option 2 appears to be the one that Sefton Council favour and according to their figures, some 510 houses would need to be built in the borough each year.
With the exception of 2007/08, not since the boom years of 2002/03 have 510 homes been built in Sefton within any 12 month period.
Recent research has shown that in fact, fewer people are choosing to live alone because of the economic climate, Homes are once again becoming traditional family homes, single occupancy is falling. To build even more houses could add to the current situation where people cannot buy them because they cannot afford a mortgage or their jobs are insecure.
So it is a valid question whether this many houses are actually needed in these economically challenging times!
